Coming Soon | Summer - Autumn 2024

Here at Theatre Royal Windsor, we are thrilled to unveil an exciting new lineup of productions, including the world-premiere of The Gates of Kiev, the return of Sidmouth Rep, bringing you three shows in three weeks, plus visiting tours from London City Ballet and Dracula.

Bill Kenwright Ltd, together with Theatre Royal Windsor, are delighted to announce that AYDEN CALLAGHAN and HONEYSUCKLE WEEKS are to lead the cast in Emlyn Williams’s gripping drama Accolade, the first play in this year’s Sean Mathias season.

Ayden Callaghan is best known for his roles as Joe Roscoe (Hollyoaks), Miles De Souza (Emmerdale) and as Frank Farmer in last year’s UK tour of The Bodyguard The Musical.

Honeysuckle Weeks became a popular face on television playing Sam Stewart in Foyle’s War. Windsor audiences will be familiar with her in the role of Cora in Calendar Girls the Musical.

Completing the cast are Jamie Hogarth (Albert), David Phelan (Thane Lampeter), Sarah Crowe (Marian Tillyard), Louis Holand (Ian), Gavin Fowler (Harold), Sarah Twomey (Phyllis), Narinder Samra (Daker) and Kayleigh Cooper (Gladys).

In Accolade, Ayden will play the protagonist Will Trenting, with Honeysuckle, his socially ambitious wife, Rona. Whilst Williams’s dark and sinister play originally stems back to 1950, the underlying tensions, coupled with the fragility of one’s personal reputation, make this play as relevant today as when it was first written.

Directed by Sean Mathias – previous productions include Frank and Percy, The Cherry Orchard, Alone Together and the recent filmed adaptation of Hamlet starring Ian McKellen.

Sidmouth Rep are back this summer by popular demand, bringing you three shows in three weeks!

Perfect Crime (Tue 16 – Sat 20 Jul). This cat-and-mouse thriller is one of off Broadway’s longest-running hits. Margaret Thorne Brent, psychiatrist and author, has returned to America with her husband, also a psychiatrist, and settled in an affluent Connecticut community where at least one bizarre murder has taken place. Inspector James Ascher, the local cop, becomes obsessed with Margaret, her patients and their sitting room, where he believes the solution to the murder lies…

Featuring a fantastic, international company of dancers, this comeback production includes acclaimed works, including the revival of Kenneth MacMillan’s 1972 one-act ballet Ballade, unseen in Europe for over 50 years. Ashley Page’s Larina Waltz celebrates its 30th Anniversary in this production, and Olivier Award-winner Arielle Smith creates a brand-new work. Eve, a full company piece by London City Ballet’s Artistic Director Christopher Marney that premiered at Sadler’s Wells in 2022, closes the evening.

The Gates of Kiev (Wed 4 – Tue 10 Sep) is the story of Maria Yudina – protestor, disruptor and dissident – who believed music could change minds and save civilisations. One of the greatest female pianists of the 20th century and graduate of the world-famous St Petersburg Conservatoire. She was fiercely defiant of the repressive regime of Josef Stalin, publicly denouncing him and daring Stalin to execute her – declaring herself a ‘Holy Fool’. The legend is, Stalin and Yudina met…A play/ piano-concert about the power of music to change hearts and minds and the fight for the soul of Russia and for peace in the former Soviet empire, using Yudina’s own repertoire, and ending with her famous furious rendition of Mussorgsky’s The Gates of Kiev.

Blackeyed Theatre in association with Harrogate Theatre and South Hill Park Arts Centre Presents, Dracula (Tue 29 Oct – Sat 2 Nov). Adapted by Nick Lane, this brilliant, theatrical treatment of Bram Stoker’s adventure blends Victorian Gothic with the Contemporary, showcasing Blackeyed Theatre’s trademark ensemble performance style and featuring a haunting soundscape, powerful performances, and innovative design for an exhilarating theatrical experience.

Also coming later this year is the previously announced second-show of our 2024 Sean Mathias season, Filumena, starring Felicity Kendal (Fri 4 – Sat 19 Oct). Eduardo de Filippo’s classic comedy (with English version by Keith Waterhouse & Willis Hall) set in the balmy heat of Naples that questions the family ties that bind us and whether we can ever escape our past. Often cited as the writer’s best work, the show is a sparkling comedy-drama full of entanglement and intrigue. In a battle of wills between all involved, Filumena mixes de Filippo’s charm and optimism with acerbic wit and a moral examination of how where we come from can define who we become.
