The Cherry Orchard has stood the test of time because great writing always does

What do you think has made The Cherry Orchard stand the test of time as a play?

The Cherry Orchard has stood the test of time because great writing always does. Chekhov understands the human complex, and successfully manages to speak up for those who don’t have a voice and those who quash the voice of others.

Where do you sit on the debate on whether The Cherry Orchard is a comedy or a tragedy?

Quite simply The Cherry Orchard is both, a comedy and a tragedy. In life, comedy and tragedy are so closely related. For example, most of the characters in the production are so tragically self-involved that it’s hilarious to watch.

Describe your character in 3 words:

Deserving (of love), loyal, and vulnerable.

Have you performed in a Chekhov play before?

I haven’t performed Chekhov before, which helps me bring a fresh and honest perspective to the part and the play.

Is this your first show in Windsor? What are your favourite things about the venue and the area?

The Cherry Orchard is my first show in Windsor. The Theatre Royal is an actor’s dream; intimate, legendary and aesthetically beautiful. Not to mention, its next door neighbours are the Royal Family!
