Alan Bennett‘s most loved play.
The hilarious and touching real-life story that was made into a hit film starring Dame Maggie Smith.
Based on the true story of Alan Bennett’s unique friendship with Mary Shepherd. After allowing her to park her Bedford van in the driveway of his Camden home for three months, the eccentric Miss Shepherd ended up residing there for 15 years!
This Radio Play will be read in an authentic studio setting and brought to life with a foley artist recreating sound effects and atmospherics in the style of vintage radio drama live on stage.
Starring Nichola McAuliffe (Surgical Spirit), Matthew Cottle (Game On), Sara Crowe (Four Weddings and a Funeral), Robert Duncan (Drop the Dead Donkey), and Leon Ockenden (Coronation Street). Also returning to the Windsor-on-Air studio Ben Stock and Michael Workman, previously seen in last year’s A Christmas Carol (On Air).
★★★★ “Very entertaining…had the whole audience chuckling with its witty lines and quirky characters” – Fairy Powered Productions*
“From the very first scene it’s plain just how wonderful Bennett’s writing is” – The Spy in the Stalls*
