Announcing King Charles III's Royal Patronage

The management of Theatre Royal Windsor are delighted that His Majesty King Charles III has accepted the patronage of Theatre Royal Windsor Trust, previously held by his mother, the late Queen Elizabeth II.

Theatre Royal Windsor has, for centuries, been at the heart of cultural life in the town, and we are thrilled that His Majesty is continuing to support the work of our theatre.

Anne-Marie Woodley, director of Theatre Royal Windsor, says:

“We are delighted that His Majesty is continuing the long-standing and special relationship between two historic Windsor neighbours. We are deeply indebted to Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth for her lifetime of support to the Theatre Royal, including her many visits over the years, and we are delighted to welcome such a great champion of the arts as our new patron.”

Theatre Royal Windsor has existed on its current site in the shadow of Windsor Castle since 1815, with royal support stretching even further back to the late 1790s when George III and Queen Charlotte regularly attended. Today, Theatre Royal Windsor is part of Bill Kenwright Ltd., and is one of the only unsubsidised commercial producing theatres outside of London, blazing the trail for regional creative organisations and keeping the tradition of Rep Theatre alive!
