PRIOR TO THE WEST END

A lost watch, a missing brooch, a displaced picture frame… Tricks of the mind perhaps, but for Bella Manningham everything seems horribly real. As the fog-bound evening draws in and the gaslight dims again, Bella realizes she is alone with no one to protect her from the footsteps creaking in the attic.

Only the unexpected arrival of former police detective Rough can help untangle fact from fiction and save a woman on the brink of insanity.

Patrick Hamilton’s Gaslight was first staged in 1938, and in 1944 was adapted as a film starring legendary Academy Award winner Ingrid Bergman, Joseph Cotten and Charles Boyer.

One of the UK’s best-loved actors, MARTIN SHAW leads a star-studded cast. Best known for his TV roles in Judge John Deed, Inspector George Gently and The Professionals, he returns to the stage after recent West End triumphs including An Ideal Husband, Twelve Angry Men, Are You Lonesome Tonight? and A Man for All Seasons.

Martin is joined by stage and screen star JAMES WILBY. A household name for almost 40 years and renowned for his lead role in the film Maurice, and most recently as the dominant political figure, Lord Falmouth in Poldark. James will play the role of domineering Jack Manningham.

CHARLOTTE EMMERSON joins the fantastic line-up in the role of haunted wife Bella. Charlotte made her West End debut playing the title role in Tennessee Williams’ Baby Doll. A seasoned stage actree, Charlotte is also a familiar face on television, having graced several TV shows including Casualty, Silent Witness and Law & Order.
